Key Findings
- Prompt shortened from 49 to 30 words with no quality loss. Redundant expressions like
editorial, intense, and(solid color field)are all unnecessary - Red and yellow are the most stable background colors for studio-style portraits, excelling in uniformity, shadow depth, and composition consistency
saturated blue backgroundis interpreted as “blue sky” (3/3). It doesn’t function as a studio backdropsolid black backgroundfails to produce solid black (0/3). It converts to dark atmospheric scenes with smoke, bokeh, and light particles- Red background provides strong warm contrast with skin tone and clear color separation from black wet hair
Experiment Design
Two experiments were conducted:
- Prompt shortening test: Compress verbose natural language to tag format and check for visual differences
- Background color comparison: Compare 6 colors (red, blue, green, yellow, black, white) for studio portrait reproducibility

Observations
Since seeds differ between conditions, the images aren’t identical, but all key elements were maintained in both conditions across 3/3 images:
- Composition: Low-angle close-up portrait (3/3)
- Background: Rose-to-coral red solid background (3/3)
- Hair: Wet-look curly hair falling over forehead and one eye (3/3)
- Lighting: Hard side key light with deep face and neck shadows (3/3)
- Expression: Lips slightly parted (3/3)
No quality degradation was observed despite cutting 19 words. The following were confirmed unnecessary:
editorial: No visual difference when combined withcinematicintense: Redundant withsaturated(solid color field): Parenthetical explanation has no effect on outputfalling over the forehead and partially covering:over one eyealone maintains the hair-over-eye look- Verbose lighting description: Tag format
hard side key light, deep face shadowsachieves the same effect
Lab Director: Cutting 25 words and getting the same output is a bigger deal than it sounds. This kind of fat-trimming is how you stay under the 75-token limit.
Experiment 2: 6-Color Background Comparison
Using the shortened prompt from Experiment 1 as base, only the background color was changed.
Conditions
| ID | Condition | Prompt Difference |
|---|---|---|
| C01 | Red (baseline) | saturated red background |
| C02 | Blue | saturated blue background |
| C03 | Green | saturated green background |
| C04 | Yellow | saturated yellow background |
| C05 | Black | solid black background |
| C06 | White | solid white background |
C01: Red (Baseline)
| Seed 42 | Seed 123 | Seed 789 |
|---|---|---|
![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
Observations
All 3 images produced a uniform rose-to-coral red background. Not pure crimson but a consistent subdued tone across all seeds. Warm color cast visible on skin, particularly around neck and collarbone areas where red reflection is noticeable. Side key light shadows were clearly rendered in 3/3 images.
C02: Blue
| Seed 42 | Seed 123 | Seed 789 |
|---|---|---|
![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
Observations
In 3/3 images, the background was rendered as “blue sky” rather than a studio backdrop. The scene was interpreted as an outdoor setting under clear sky.
- Seed 42: Pose changed to arm raised above head. Strong warm highlights on skin resembling sunlight
- Seed 123: Low angle maintained but background is entirely blue sky. Sunlight-like warm light on skin
- Seed 789: Uniform blue sky background. Close-up composition maintained
saturated blue background does not function as a solid studio backdrop — it triggers outdoor blue sky interpretation. Skin tones shift warmer with daylight-like quality, and the specified hard side key light weakens.
C03: Green
| Seed 42 | Seed 123 | Seed 789 |
|---|---|---|
![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
Observations
All 3 images produced sage-to-olive green backgrounds. Despite the saturated modifier, the tone was more subdued than red or yellow. Skin color cast was neutral to slightly cool. Side key light shadows were visible but shallower than red or yellow in 2/3 images (seed42, seed789). Seed 123 showed relatively deep shadows, indicating seed-dependent variation.
C04: Yellow
| Seed 42 | Seed 123 | Seed 789 |
|---|---|---|
![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
Observations
All 3 images produced uniform gold-to-mustard yellow backgrounds. Second highest consistency after red. Warm golden tones reflected onto skin. Side key light shadows were deep in 3/3 images, matching red’s contrast level. Seed 789 showed particularly sharp hair detail and wet texture, with black hair contrasting effectively against the yellow backdrop.
Lab Director: Yellow’s a sleeper pick. Less aggressive than red, but it has this fashion editorial vibe. Black wet hair really pops against it.
C05: Black
| Seed 42 | Seed 123 | Seed 789 |
|---|---|---|
![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
Observations
Solid black background was achieved in 0/3 images. All seeds shared these characteristics:
- Background: Dark atmospheric scenes with smoke, fog, bokeh, or light particles. Textured, not flat solid black
- Lighting change: Different lighting from specified
hard side key light. Golden rim-light-like edge highlights appeared on hair, shifting the overall look to a low-key mood portrait - Skin tone: Warmer, with increased contrast pulled by the dark background
solid black background does not function as a solid studio backdrop — it’s interpreted as “dark atmospheric scene.” Lighting specifications also tend to be overridden.
C06: White
| Seed 42 | Seed 123 | Seed 789 |
|---|---|---|
![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
Observations
All 3 images produced off-white to light gray backgrounds. Not pure white but relatively uniform. Skin tones were the most neutral among all colored backgrounds, with minimal color cast. However, side key light shadow depth was shallower compared to other colors — the bright background reduces shadow contrast. Seed 123 showed particularly clear water droplet detail.
Background Color Summary
| Color | Background Accuracy | Skin Color Cast | Shadow Depth | As Studio Backdrop |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Red | 3/3 | Warm (rose-coral) | Deep (3/3) | Most stable |
| Yellow | 3/3 | Warm (gold) | Deep (3/3) | Stable |
| Green | 3/3 | Neutral-cool | Slightly shallow (1/3 deep) | Somewhat unstable |
| White | 3/3 | Minimal | Shallow (3/3) | Shadows weaken |
| Blue | 0/3 (becomes sky) | Daylight warmth | Unstable | Not suitable |
| Black | 0/3 (becomes scene) | Warm (amber) | Different lighting | Not suitable |
Lab Director: Black background just doesn’t listen. You write
solid black backgroundand get moody smoke-machine vibes instead. If you want actual black, you’ll need a different approach entirely.
