[Experiment] Prompts for Korean Makeup (Ulzzang Style) | 8 Conditions, 24 Images

Conclusions First

  • korean makeup increases skin luminosity and slightly deepens lip color. Compared to control, there’s a tendency for facial features to shift toward Korean-looking
  • glass skin shows almost no difference from control. Skin texture changes were not confirmed
  • gradient lip changes lip color to deep pink to red in all 3 out of 3, and strengthens cheek pink as well. Effect is clear
  • straight brow shows no difference from control in eyebrow shape
  • dewy skin adds water droplet-like shine to the skin surface in all 3 out of 3. Effect is clear
  • ulzzang tends to thicken eyeliner and add accessories (earrings, etc.)
  • cushion foundation slightly increases matte skin feel, but the difference from control is small

For Korean makeup, korean makeup has the best balance overall. For emphasizing lips, combining gradient lip is effective; for wet skin, combining dewy skin is effective.

Base Prompt
1girl, 32yo japanese actress, {VARIABLE}, close-up face portrait, indoor studio, soft lighting

close-up face portrait used to observe makeup details.

A00: control

seed 1seed 2seed 3
control s1control s2control s3

Observation: All 3 show natural makeup. Skin is matte to semi-matte without notable shine. Lips are natural pink-beige. Eyebrows are gently arched. s3 only wears a choker and veil.

A01: korean makeup

korean makeup s1korean makeup s2korean makeup s3

Observation: All 3 show increased skin luminosity compared to control. Lip color shifts to slightly deeper coral pink. s2 has center-parted straight hair with notable skin sheen. s3 wears a veil with deeper eye shadow. Compared to control, there’s an overall tendency for features to look more Korean-like.

A02: glass skin

Added Keyword
glass skin
seed 1seed 2seed 3
glass skin s1glass skin s2glass skin s3

Observation: Almost no difference from control. Skin texture and shine are at the same level as control. s2 has hair tied up with slight skin shine, but the control’s s2 is at the same level too. glass skin alone showed no confirmable skin texture effect with this model.

A03: gradient lip

Added Keyword
gradient lip
seed 1seed 2seed 3
gradient lip s1gradient lip s2gradient lip s3

Observation: All 3 out of 3 show lip color clearly shifted to deep pink to red compared to control. s1 has vivid rose-pink lips with pink blush on the cheeks as well. s2 has vivid coral-pink glossy lips with large earrings added. s3 also has strong red-pink lips with prominent cheek pink. The gradient structure (darker in the center, lighter toward the edges) was confirmed in 2 out of 3 (s1, s3). Side effect: large earrings appear in s2.

A04: straight brow

Added Keyword
straight brow
seed 1seed 2seed 3
straight brow s1straight brow s2straight brow s3

Observation: No difference from control. Eyebrow shape remains gently arched as in control — no change to parallel straight brows was confirmed. Skin texture and lip color are also at control level. straight brow had no effect on eyebrow shape control with this model.

A05: dewy skin

Added Keyword
dewy skin
seed 1seed 2seed 3
dewy skin s1dewy skin s2dewy skin s3

Observation: All 3 out of 3 show water droplet-like shine added to the skin surface. Skin shine is clearly increased compared to control. s1 shows multiple light reflection points on the cheeks and forehead with a wet-looking texture. s2 shows strong highlights and water droplets on the forehead, nose bridge, and cheeks. s3 is the most striking with water droplets across the entire face and wet hair. Unlike glass skin, dewy skin produces clear skin texture changes. However, the effect can be so strong it looks “sweating” or “wet from water.”

Lab Director Comment: dewy skin is way too effective. It’s not dewy, it’s literally wet. Has its uses, but as makeup it might be overdoing it.

A06: ulzzang

Added Keyword
ulzzang
seed 1seed 2seed 3
ulzzang s1ulzzang s2ulzzang s3

Observation: All 3 out of 3 show thicker eyeliner and more prominent lashes compared to control. s1 wears small earrings with a black camisole. s2 has cat-eye style eyeliner flicking up toward the outer corners with gold earrings. s3 has a blind background with a gray jacket, straight bangs, and an overall Korean idol vibe. Compared to control, there are significant side effects on outfit, accessories, and hairstyle.

A07: cushion foundation

Added Keyword
cushion foundation
seed 1seed 2seed 3
cushion foundation s1cushion foundation s2cushion foundation s3

Observation: Small difference from control. All 3 show natural skin texture at the same semi-matte finish as control. s2 looks slightly brighter and more even-toned than control, but the difference is minimal. cushion foundation doesn’t function as a keyword that significantly changes skin texture.

Summary

korean makeupIncreased skin luminosity, coral-pink lipsFacial features shift toward Korean look
glass skinNo differenceNone
gradient lipDeep pink to red lips, gradient structureCheek pink also strengthens, accessories added
straight browNo differenceNone
dewy skinWater droplet-like shine added to skinMay look too wet
ulzzangDarker eyeliner, emphasized lashesOutfit, accessories, hairstyle change
cushion foundationNo differenceNone

Clear effects were confirmed for korean makeup, gradient lip, dewy skin, and ulzzang. glass skin, straight brow, and cushion foundation showed no difference from control.

For targeting overall Korean makeup, korean makeup is the most stable with minimal side effects. For changing lips only, gradient lip is effective in isolation; for wet skin, dewy skin works as a targeted addition. ulzzang has significant effects beyond makeup, so it’s recommended only when changes to outfit and accessories can be tolerated.

Lab Director Comment: It’s unfortunate that glass skin, straight brow, and cushion foundation don’t work. Korean makeup keywords having 3 out of 8 be ineffective is quite a lot. Knowing which ones actually work is the key.
