[Experiment] Prompts for Goth and Dark Makeup | 8 Conditions, 24 Images

Conclusions First

• goth makeup produces the largest overall change. Lips shift to black or dark brown, eye shadow deepens, skin becomes noticeably lighter. Hair shifts to gray or ash tones, and gothic costume elements and accessories are added
• dark lips changes only the lips to black, with everything else close to control. Effective when you only want to darken the lips
• pale face whitens the skin, but 2 out of 3 images came out with an unnatural powdery texture. Not suitable for use as a makeup look
• heavy eyeliner adds heavy black eyeliner around the eyes, and in all 3 images the lips also shifted to black. Hair color changing to gray is a side effect
• dark eyeshadow changes the eye shadow to purple consistently across all 3 images. No effect on lips — effect is concentrated solely on the eyes
• vampire look produces white skin, dark lips (dark brown to bordeaux), reddish eye area, and gray hair as a combined package. Similar to goth makeup but with added redness
• cyber goth has the largest side effects of any condition. Purple and pink colored contacts, tear makeup, black lips, plus notable costume changes including chokers, necklaces, and braided hair

For goth makeup, goth makeup has the best overall balance. For darkening lips only, use dark lips. For eye-only changes with minimal side effects, use dark eyeshadow.

Experiment Design

A00: Control

Observation: Natural makeup across all 3 images. Skin is matte to semi-matte, lips are a natural pink-beige. Brows are gently arched. Hair is brown to dark brown. Only s3 wears a choker and veil.

A01: goth makeup

Observation: All 3 images showed major changes from control. Lips shifted to black or dark brown. Dark eye shadow and eyeliner added around the eyes, and skin is noticeably lighter than control. s1 gains red colored contacts, a lace veil, a cross necklace, and a choker. s2 has hair shifting to gray/ash with black tear-like decoration under the eyes and a pearl-studded choker. s3 gains a veil, leather choker, cross necklace, and dark purple eye shadow. All 3 show costume changes toward gothic styling — significant side effects beyond just makeup.

A02: dark lips

Observation: All 3 images shifted to black lips. s1 has matte black lips while everything else remains close to control — skin tone, brows, and hair are similar. s2 also has fully black lips with natural-looking skin and eyes. s3 has black lips in a composition through a veil. Across all 3, impact on anything other than the lips is minimal — dark lips functions as a keyword that changes lip color alone. Note that the result is full black rather than just “dark.”

A03: pale face

Observation: 2 out of 3 images (s1, s2) showed an unnatural white powdery texture across the entire face — like heavy face powder. Not usable as a makeup-white skin look. s3 had wet-looking hair, and while the skin was pale, the powdery effect was less severe — skin tone was just slightly brighter than control. Lip color remained the same natural pink as control. pale face whitens the skin but carries a high risk of the powdery texture appearing.

A04: heavy eyeliner

Observation: All 3 images have heavy black eyeliner and eye shadow around the eyes. s1 has hair shifting to gray long straight style, black lips, and a choker. s2 also has hair shifting to gray/silver, black lips, and earrings. s3 wears a gray hooded fabric with black lips and very thick eyeliner. All 3 show lips shifting to black and hair shifting to gray tones. heavy eyeliner affects not just the eyeliner but also lips, hair color, and clothing — too many side effects if you only want to change the eyes.

A05: dark eyeshadow

Observation: All 3 images showed purple eye shadow on the eyelids. s1 has deep purple shadow across the entire upper lid, with natural pink lips. s2 also has purple shadow spreading across the upper lid with natural lips. s3 has darker purple shadow with lips shifting to a slightly purple-toned mauve pink. Hair color, skin tone, and clothing remain close to control across all 3 — minimal side effects. Note that the color is purple rather than “dark (black-toned).” dark eyeshadow concentrates its effect on the eyes with few side effects.

A06: vampire look

Observation: All 3 images showed whitened skin and lips shifting to dark brown or bordeaux. s1 has hair shifting to gray, reddish-brown eye shadow, and dark bordeaux lips. s2 also has ash gray hair, reddish-brown eye area, and dark brown lips. s3 wears a veil with red tear-like decoration under the eyes and dark brown lips. Compared to goth makeup, lips are dark brown to bordeaux rather than full black, and redness is added to the eye area. All 3 show hair shifting to gray tones as a side effect.

A07: cyber goth

Observation: All 3 images showed the largest departure from control of any condition. s1 has braided hair with purple and pink highlights, purple colored contacts, tear makeup, black lips, a choker, and a mesh top. s2 also has purple colored contacts, tear makeup, black lips, a leather choker, and gray hair. s3 has purple colored contacts, star-shaped tear makeup decoration, black lips, a spiked choker, cross-motif necklace, and hair clips. All 3 share colored contacts, tear makeup, black lips, and chokers, with costume and accessory side effects being the largest of any condition. Not suitable when you only want to change makeup.

Note: cyber goth produces tear makeup, colored contacts, and a spiked choker all together as a package. This side effect makes it unsuitable if only makeup control is desired, but effective when the goal is to lock in a full aesthetic in one shot.

Summary

The only keywords usable without side effects are dark lips (lips only, black) and dark eyeshadow (eyes only, purple). For full goth makeup, goth makeup has the best balance and consistently produces a gothic look across all 3 images.

pale face tends to produce a powdery texture and is not suited for the white skin of goth makeup. If you want pale skin, goth makeup or vampire look produces a more natural-looking paleness.

heavy eyeliner changes not just the liner but also lips and hair color — if you only want to control the eye area, dark eyeshadow is more appropriate.

Note: This test showed that goth makeup has keywords that can control individual parts. dark lips and dark eyeshadow work without side effects, so layering those as a base for jirai-kei makeup could be useful. Stacking goth makeup with dark eyeshadow remains untested.
