Prompting Aegyo Sal (Under-Eye Bags): Smile and Glitter Makeup Approaches Compared

Key Findings

  • The most reliable way to render aegyo sal is aegyo sal, gentle smile. With the cheeks raised by the smile, under-eye fullness was visible in 3/3 images
  • aegyo sal, glitter under-eye makeup produces a Korean-makeup-style eye area: glitter/pearl shimmer on the lids and under-eye in 3/3 images, with clear under-eye volume in 1/3 and moderate in 2/3
  • puffy lower eyelids produced clear under-eye bags in 0/3 images. In one image it rendered dark under-eye shadows (reading as tiredness) instead
  • As confirmed in the gyaru makeup test, bare aegyo sal is weak. Combining it with an expression or a makeup context is what works

Base Prompt

Base prompt
1girl, 32yo japanese actress, {VARIABLE}, close-up face portrait, indoor studio, soft lighting

The base prompt and seeds are identical to the gyaru makeup test, so control and bare aegyo sal images were not regenerated; we reference the earlier experiment.

Caveat: Each condition combines two keywords, so this is not a strict single-variable comparison. In particular, A01 cannot separate “cheeks raised by the smile itself” from “the aegyo sal keyword’s effect.”

Reference: control / bare aegyo sal (from the gyaru makeup test)

control (seed 2)bare aegyo sal (seed 1)bare aegyo sal (seed 2)
Control, no makeup keywordsBare aegyo salBare aegyo sal

Observations: With bare aegyo sal, the under-eye area stays smooth and no distinct bulge appears (matching the original article’s observations).

A01: aegyo sal + gentle smile

Added keywords
aegyo sal, gentle smile
seed 1seed 2seed 3
Aegyo sal with a gentle smileAegyo sal with a gentle smileAegyo sal with a gentle smile

Observations: Under-eye fullness is visible in 3/3 images. Seed 2, with a toothy smile and strongly raised cheeks, shows the clearest aegyo sal. Seeds 1 and 3 have subtler closed-lip smiles with weaker but still visible fullness. The under-eye volume renders in concert with the physical cheek lift of the smile, clearly outperforming bare aegyo sal on a neutral face.

A02: puffy lower eyelids (direct shape description)

Added keywords
puffy lower eyelids
seed 1seed 2seed 3
puffy lower eyelidspuffy lower eyelidspuffy lower eyelids

Observations: Distinct under-eye bags: 0/3. Seed 2 renders dark under-eye shading (reading as tiredness) rather than fullness — the interpretation of “puffy” drifts toward swelling/fatigue. All three images are also cropped tighter than control. Not a suitable keyword for aegyo sal.

A03: aegyo sal + glitter under-eye makeup

Added keywords
glitter under-eye makeup, aegyo sal
seed 1seed 2seed 3
Glitter under-eye makeupGlitter under-eye makeupGlitter under-eye makeup

Observations: Glitter/pearl shimmer appears on the lids and under-eye area in 3/3 images. Seed 2 shows the clearest combination of under-eye volume plus highlight — a sparkly, K-pop-idol-style eye area. Seeds 1 and 3 also shift toward a K-beauty finish with dewy skin and glossy lips. For aegyo sal as makeup, this is the best-looking approach.

Rather than describing the shape directly, rendering aegyo sal indirectly through an expression (smile) or a makeup context (glitter) proved more reliable. Use aegyo sal, gentle smile for a natural look and glitter under-eye makeup, aegyo sal for a makeup look.

Note: The drift of puffy lower eyelids toward dark circles was unexpected. The same “under-eye fullness” seems to be rendered differently depending on whether the context is cute (aegyo sal) or tired (puffy eyelids).
